Global Alliance of Yogis in Action

Developed by Katie Capano and Harman Arora, in collaboration with Doctors for Global Health, GAYA uses the philosophy and practice of yoga to improve health and education, inspiring individuals and communities into action.

In 2012, Katie and Harman were invited to develop alternative healing programming as an adjunct to the western medicine care DGH provides to at-risk communities in Latin America. After doing a needs-based assessment and visiting multiple communities in El Salvador and Mexico in 2013, Katie and Harman decided to focus on Santa Marta, El Salvador for their first pilot project.

Since April 2014, Katie and Harman have sent multiple volunteers to Santa Marta to teach yoga, massage and/or meditation to the local community while enjoying a cultural exchange.
